Crime

Some people think that certain prisoners should be made to do unpaid community work instead of being put behind bars.

To what extent do you agree or disagree?

To start with the imprisonment of any individual, there are certain behavioral changes been observed in the overall timeline of life. There can be a positive change, wherein an individual gets to understand certain scope or life, which would be inclined towards the philosophical side. To justify this once a person commits crime for sake sake of preventing something or in adrenaline rush, they tend to calm down on the contrary they also are more prone to death because of the mental state of guilt.

The other side of the coin could be very negative. If an innocent is forcefully jailed, there is a high probability he might turn out rebellious and hunt certain people or their assets. There is high risk involved in such cases. However, it is observed that this doesn't happen more often as judiciary system of country has to be strong to catch such cases. As they say in law, unless proven guilty, one is always innocent.

Once imprisoned person never remains the same. Either they burn of envy, anger and rebel or they calm down, revolutionize and build certain thoughts which get outlived in their life for rest of the life. Suicidal tendencies are also observed under some cases. But if considered under community work prisoners can be risk to a larger part of society. For instance a high profile criminal may enact as innocent for some years just that they could have access to the community, then control all his criminal activities indirectly by falsehood of community work. Moreover, it also would be an extremely tiring job for the police to control such activities.

Hence my take on this would be a big denial. Provided the conditions for some criminals to be freed earlier than their actual imprisonment time on good conduct and cause.
